Alcohol abuse and cognitive decline in men and women Lead Investigator: Yixin Wang Institution : NACC E-Mail : yxwang@uw.edu Proposal ID : 400 Proposal Description: As alcohol consumption is escalating rapidly in many countries, the dangers of heavy drinking and its effect on cognition require further attention. Many studies suggest a J-shaped relationship between alcohol consumption and cognitive impairment and other health indicators, with low level of alcohol intake associated with a lower risk of dementia than abstention or moderate to heavy drinking. The aim of this project is to explore the association between alcohol abuse and cognitive decline in men and women separately, in order to study further whether the effect of alcohol abuse on cognition is different by sex.
